Northop Hall will be out to reverse a result which has haunted them for 13 years when they take on Newport in the Welsh Cricket Cup semi-finals at Smithy Lane on Sunday (1 pm).
Back in 2008, the Flintshire side were beaten in the national final by the Gwent side with just three balls to go.
That was the last time Hall competed in the showpiece game of Wales’ premier knockout and it was a painful experience as they scored 177-8 off 45 overs, Alex Smith hitting 78, only for Newport to reach 181-8 in 44.3, Simon Butler taking 3-33.
Northop Hall, who have won the Welsh Cup once in 1997, now aim to become the first North Wales club since Colwyn Bay in 2015 to lift the prestigious trophy.
It will be a tough test, though, against Newport, one of the leading clubs in the South Wales Premier Cricket League.
To reach the last four, Liverpool and District Competition First Division club Hall have beaten four North Wales opponents.

With the 2021 Flintshire Knockout trophy already in the club cabinet, Northop Hall are also into the semi-finals of the Ray Tyler Cup, where they entertain Hightown St Mary’s on September 19.
The club would dearly love to add a second Welsh Cup to their list of honours.
