JD Cymru Premier – weekend 1 review

Celebration time for Caernarfon Town players

Goals number 207 and 208 of Mike Wilde’s Cymru Premier career helped his new club Flint Town United storm to a 5-1 opening day victory at Cardiff Met University.

Wilde, 37, who joined the Silkmen earlier this month from Connah’s Quay Nomads, needs just another two goals to go third in the all-time league marksmen list above Lee Hunt on 209.

His double on Saturday played a big part in Flint claiming the very early leadership of the table on goal difference.

Jack Kenny, Callum Bratley and Connor Harwood were also on target for Neil Gibson’s men.

Champions Connah’s Quay Nomads made the ideal start on Friday night with a 2-0 triumph at Cefn Druids – last season’s bottom club.

A Josef Faux own goal after just two minutes was followed by another on 55 from the phenomenal George Horan.

An emotion-packed Oval saw Caernarfon Town welcome back the fans in style with a 2-0 win over Haverfordwest.

Danny Gosset, who was given the all-clear from cancer just a year ago, marked his competitive debut for the Cofis with a 73rd minute goal from a 20-yard free kick.

And Cai Jones secured the points in added time by smartly chipping keeper Lee Idzi.

Jakub Ojrzynski made an impressive debut in goal for a new-look Caernarfon, whose first day line-up also featured ex-Wrexham and Wales legendary defender Steve Evans, plus midfield magicians Dion Donohue and Rob Hughes.

Bala Town had to be satisfied with a 2-2 home draw against Penybont, Will Evans and former Wales international Dave Edwards on target for the Lakesiders.
