Coast Reserve League reports – wins for Phoenix, Llanberis, Pwllheli and Bont

REPORTS: NORTH WALES COAST RESERVE LEAGUE – AUGUST 8/9

Kinmel Bay Reserves 2 (Hulse 40 & 55 pens)
Penmaenmawr Phoenix Reserves 3 (Hughes 11, Lloyd 28, Spirydowicz 90)

Although Kinmel Bay recovered from two goals down to draw level they ended up losing to an added time winner from Kacper Spirydowicz.

Having lost 7-0 to Pen in a pre-season friendly a few weeks ago, Monday’s performance represented much improvement for Bay, who fielded a mainly young side with five lads under 19.

Although the hosts started well, it was Phoenix who took the lead on 11 minutes when a 35-yard effort from Ben Hughes could only be helped into the goal by stand-in keeper Shane Bradley

The visitors went two-up on 28 minutes through a 25-yard piledriver from Harri Lloyd Williams.

Kinmel responded on 40 minutes when Kai Paolucci was brought down in the area by Cam West and Ryan Hulse converted from the spot to make it 2-1 at the break.

Pen keeper Dion Jones had to be replaced at half time after getting injured in a heavy collision with Ricki Roberts. West took over between the sticks for the second half.

Bay began the second half smartly and on 55 minutes were back on terms.

Oliver Grey was felled in the area by Gavin Simpson and Hulse put away his second penalty.

It was very much game on now, Phoenix going close on three occasions as Bradley produced a wonder save to deny Williams, Hughes hit the bar with a header and Troy Yates was through one-on-one but could only fire straight at the keeper.

Bay also had a third penalty claim turned down, but just as it looked set to finish 2-2, up popped Spirydowicz unmarked to grab the winner from a corner.

Kinmel manager Alex Craig took a lot of positives from the game despite the result, praising the efforts of defender Harry Woodfine, a recent signing from Rhyl All Stars, as well as youngsters Connor Craig, Grey, Paolucci and subs Declan Bellamy and Josh Formston.

Llanberis Reserves 4 (Holdsworth 10, Jones-Evans 29 & 64 pen, Maxwell 77)
Llanrug United Reserves 2 (Llewelyn 33, Griffiths 36)

This local derby went the way of the Darans, whose goals came from Cai Holdsworth, Aaron Jones-Evans (2, 1 pen) and Gethin Maxwell.

The away side responded through Dafydd Llewelyn and Sam Griffiths.

It was 2-2 at half time with Holdsworth also missing a penalty for ‘Beris in the second period.

Pwllheli Reserves 3 (Williams pen 25, 49 & 64)
Nefyn United Reserves 1 (Roberts 87)

Rhys Owain Williams was Pwllheli’s hero with a hat-trick in this much-anticipated Llyn derby.

Williams netted from the penalty spot on 25 minutes, then added further goals on 49 and 64.

Guto Sion Roberts replied near the end for the Penwaig, who had Carwyn Trenholme sent off after 65 minutes.

Sunday, August 8

Bontnewydd Reserves 4 (Matthew Jones 18, Osian McGuinness 35, Cameron Owen 71, Owen Chidley 85)
Llangoed & District Reserves 2 (Fritter 8, Davies 27)

Two second-half goals clinched the points for Bont in the first-ever match played in the North Wales Coast Reserve League on Sunday.

But newly-formed Llangoed Reserves put up a decent show and were right in the game throughout.

Kieran Fritter put the visitors ahead through a very well-struck free kick just eight minutes in at Cae Stanley.

Bont levelled on 18 minutes, defender Matthew Jones firing home from a corner.

Llangoed regained the lead on 27 minutes when midfielder Kieron Davies, making his debut, curled a fine effort into the bottom corner.

Osian McGuinness headed in from close range to make it all-square at the break.

Llangoed had chances after the interval but failed to take them, whereas a slick finish from Cameron Owen and a stunning long-ranger from Owen Chidley sealed the points for the hosts.
