Double delight for CPD Y Rhyl 1879 women

Great news for CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Women – two top class players are back on familiar territory.

Midfield ace Rebecca Bannister and striker Candice Nellist have both joined the Belle Vue club, which succeeded the former Rhyl FC after it folded in April 2020.

Popular figure Becca, 22, affectionately nicknamed Boo, played for Prestatyn Girls from under-10’s through to U16’s, then Everton Girls Centre of Excellence before joining Rhyl Ladies in the Welsh Premier.

She was part of the Prestatyn Girls Under-16 side which won the Welsh Cup Final in 2015, beating Coed Du Dragons 4-0 at Newtown.

Becca is also a Wales international, having been capped for her country at under-15 and U-17 levels.

She joined NFA in 2019-20 before switching to Connah’s Quay Nomads. Boo scored in the Nomads’ famous 2-1 win over Welsh Premier side Port Talbot in the Welsh Cup.

A fantastic passer of the ball, Becca also possesses a tremendous shot and has always contributed her share of goals.

Strong and powerful front-runner Candice, 20, also scored in the aforementioned Welsh Cup tie for Connah’s Quay in the 2019-20 season.

She had previously represented Tranmere Rovers and Rhyl FC Ladies in the Welsh Premier.

Candice was a big hit at Connah’s Quay, finishing top-scorer with 16 goals in all in 2019-20 and hitting 11 of those in North Wales League Division Two, where the Nomads finished runners-up and unbeaten.

She was selected for a Wales under-15 squad in the past and has been a goalscorer for as long as she can remember, once netting 10 in a single game for Prestatyn Under-10’s.

On the back of midfield ace Rachael Nattrass also rejoining the ranks, as well as the returning talents of Laura Williams up front, the Rhyl 1879 squad is shaping very nicely for the new season in the North Wales Women’s League.
