Come along and support Ash’s Legendary Day this Saturday

The much-loved and much-missed Ash Nickless

Organisers of a charity football match taking place this weekend in memory of a Royal Marines commando are hoping for a large turnout.

Ashley Nickless passed away on November 22, 2019, and a game to remember him, between his friends from Old Colwyn and the Royal Marines, will kick off at 1pm at Colwyn Bay Football Club on Saturday.

The event is open to the public, with a £2 entry fee. The money raised will be donated to the Royal Marines and the mental health charity MIND.

Ashley’s best friends, Terry Hughes from Old Colwyn, and Marty Stronach, a Royal Marines commando, wanted to organise a fun day where everyone who knew Ash could come together and celebrate his life and share stories.

Ashley, who was 31, sadly took his own life in November 2019 after struggling with his mental health and PTSD. He was held in very high regard by the Royal Marines and went on two tours of Afghanistan.

As well as the match itself, there will be a bouncy castle, face painting and sweet stall, while the club house will be open and selling food and drinks from 12 pm.

Lots of local companies have also provided donations for a raffle.

Ashley’s sister Amy Conway-Williams thanks everyone who has been involved including Hayley Egan, who is running the kitchen on the day, Colwyn Bay FC director of football Neil Coverley for allowing use of facilities and Poyntons Butchers in Old Colwyn, who Ashley worked for as a teenager before going into the Marines, for supplying the food.
