New management teams at CPD Gaerwen and Llanfairpwll

CPD Gaerwen have unveiled Vinny Walker and Spud Thomas as their new first-team managers.

The pair arrive at Lon Groes a day after stepping down as bosses of Anglesey neighbours CPD Llanfairpwll.

Llanfair were not without a management team for long, with Gwyndaf Hughes and Danny Connolly having taken over at Maes Eilian.

Spud Thomas became assistant to Steve Hughes at Llanfairpwll when the club took the difficult decision to drop down from the Welsh Alliance to the Anglesey League three years ago.

Later, Walker joined Thomas at ‘Pwll and the pair went on to do a workmanlike job of getting the club back on a solid footing.

Now they take on a new challenge at Gaerwen, who recently lost the services of first team coach Justin Gallagher following a troubled start to the 2021-22 campaign.

Christy Pritchard stepped in as interim manager and brought in some promising signings, with performances on the field also improving.

Walker and Thomas have already begun strengthening the Gaerwen squad themselves with the capture of proven goal poacher Shaun Morris.

In a statement announcing the new managers, CPD Gaerwen said: “We would like to welcome Vinny and Spud to the club and look forward to working with them.

“The committee would also like to thank Christy Pritchard for stepping up these last couple of weeks with running and managing the team.

“He has been absolutely brilliant to work with, and as Christy would like to eventually go into coaching/management he will learn a lot from Spud and Vinny going forward and will work with them.

“Christy as a club we will be forever grateful for everything you have done these last few weeks.”
