PREMIER DIVISION – SATURDAY, JULY 24

MENAI BRIDGE (3) 186-7 BANGOR (12) 190-7

Crucial middle order knocks from skipper Matthew Haswell (49) and Idrees Ijaz (35) helped Bangor to a three-wicket win which put a dent in Menai Bridge’s title hopes.

Bridge won the toss and elected to bat, Robbie Jones top-scoring with 35 in a total of 186-7 off 50 overs.

Muhummad Ashfaq claimed 3-33 for the visitors, Jonny Wells a brilliant 2-20 off 12 and Gareth Edwards 2-37.

Bangor made it to 190-7 with two balls to spare, Haswell and Ijaz the standout batsmen, Tomos Davies with a vital 20 not out at the end.

Ashley Wood claimed 2-42 and Patrick Glover 2-61 for the hosts.

Obviously the defeat hit the home club deep as they did not put the match scorecard on line until 7 pm on Sunday.

Not just a disappointment for the sports reporters eager to write the latest about the Premier title race, but also the many cricket followers who wanted to find out how the game of the day went.

Poor show from Menai Bridge CC.
