The New Saints break Carmarthen Town’s long-time European record

The New Saints made history on Tuesday night when they recorded the biggest ever win by a Cymru Premier side in Europe.

Anthony Limbrick’s men rewrote the record books when they triumphed 5-0 in Lithuania against FK Kauno Žalgiris in a Europa Conference League first leg clash.

FIVE BIGGEST CYMRU PREMIER WINS IN EUROPE

2021/22
FK Kauno Žalgiris 0-5 The New Saints (ECL)

Saints recorded the highest ever winning margin by a Cymru Premier club in Europe when they took their Lithuanian hosts to the cleaners.
Leo Smith scored his fifth goal in five European games to give Saints the perfect start after eight minutes.
Danny Davies struck twice in four minutes to extend their lead before Declan McManus added a fourth.
Jordan Williams sealed a memorable win with a fifth goal three minutes from time.

2005/06
Carmarthen Town 5-1 Longford Town (UC)

This sensational result for Carmarthen stood for 16 years as the biggest win by a Welsh Premier side in European competition.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg against Ireland’s Longford, the Old Gold produced a stunning victory to progress into the Uefa Cup second qualifying round with a 5-3 aggregate win.
At the time, Town became only the third WPL team to win a European tie.
Mark Jones’ side’s hopes looked to be over when an Andrew Myler penalty had equalised Danny Thomas’ early opener.
But Carmarthen threw caution to the wind after the break and hit Longford with a four-goal blitz.
Gary Lloyd struck twice, Thomas added his second before Nathan Cotterall sealed the win 10 minutes from time.

2010/11
The New Saints 4-0 Bohemian (CL)

Saints advanced to a third-qualifying round Champions League tie with Anderlecht after a historic 4-0 win over Bohemians at Park Hall.
The Irish champions arrived in Oswestry with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Dublin, but were blitzed in the first half by a rampant TNS.
Craig Jones, Matty Williams and Chris Sharp all struck inside 20 minutes.
Williams’ second on 73 minutes ensured the Saints advanced in Europe for the first time in their 12 attempts.

2018/19
The New Saints 4-0 KF Shkëndija (CL)

What a crazy tie this was!
The New Saints fell just short despite an extraordinary second-leg comeback against Shkendija in this Champions League qualifier.
Trailing 5-0 following the first leg in Macedonia, first-half goals from Dean Ebbe, Danny Redmond and Ben Cabango gave Saints hope.
Substitute Kurtis Byrne scored in injury time but Saints could not find a fifth to force extra time at Park Hall.

2015/16
The New Saints 4-1 B36 Torshavn (CL)

Mike Wilde scored a hat-trick as Welsh champions The New Saints swept aside B36 Torshavn in the Champions League first qualifying round.
His strike gave TNS a 2-1 win in the first leg, and Wilde’s two first-half goals in the return put the tie beyond the Faroese.
He completed his treble early in the second half to secure a second round tie against Hungarian club Videoton.
Matty Williams claimed Saints’ fourth.
It was the first time TNS had won both legs of a Champions League tie.
