Llanystumdwy women’s football team have signed an ex-Welsh international to boost their squad for the 2021-22 season.
Former Welsh Colleges and Wales Under-17 player Malen Williams has joined the Llŷn Peninsula/Eifionydd village club.
She marked her debut with a goal in Llan’s 3-2 victory against Llangefni Town last weekend.
Malen, 25, from Pwllheli, told Grassroots North Wales about her background in the game.
“I started playing football at the age of 6 for Pwllheli Boys and then played for all the age groups through to the under-16’s,” she said.
“We won the Llyn and Eifionydd League at Under 12, 14, and 16 and numerous cups.
“I also won the North Wales Cup with Pwllheli Girls under-17’s, then went on to play for Caernarfon Town in the Welsh Premier League.
“I was lucky enough to be chosen to play for Welsh Colleges and also Wales U-17.
“After this I decided I wanted a new challenge and I went to play rugby for a few years.”
Malen is the latest quality signing by Llan, who also added top-class defender Tash Matthews to the ranks recently.
Another highly-rated new face is also about to sign for the team.
Added Malen: “I feel excited being back playing football, especially for a newly-formed team like Llanystumdwy. It was a great feeling to score in my first game, hoping this is one of many for the coming season.
“The team is made of a great bunch of girls and they’ve welcomed me from the start and I hope we have a great season.”
