Reports from North East Wales football – June 19

Mike Latham’s signing-on graphic when he joined Cefn Albion

Cefn Albion enjoyed a Saturday double with 2-1 away wins for the first team and reserves respectively.

The firsts travelled to Rhydymwyn and went behind to a goal which the visitors felt should have been flagged offside.

Despite the Albion not being at their free-flowing best in the first half they eventually pulled level through Alex Williams.

Albion were much improved in the second half and the winning goal was delivered via a moment of magic from Mike Latham, who managed to unlock a very well-organised and resolute Rhyd defence.

The reserves started their match at Coedpoeth United Reserves on the front foot and created some really good chances.

Despite hitting the woodwork three times, a defensive mistake from Cefn allowed Coedpoeth to grab a half-time lead.

After the break, the game continued in the same vein with the young Cefners in the ascendancy.

A well-worked corner led to the Albion equaliser through Tyler Wilkinson.

Five minutes from time, Leighton Kendrick netted to secure the team and manager Liam Partyn their first pre-season win.

Rest of North East Wales area round-up

Wales international Dave Edwards scored twice on his debut for Bala Town in a 4-0 win at Airbus UK Broughton.

The Europa Conference League bound Lakesiders added further goals through Ollie Shannon and a trialist.

Marcus Davies notched a hat-trick as a young Penyffordd Lions outfit performed well in the heat to see off Bellevue 7-1.

Jay Jones, Dom Randalls, Mark Emberton and Dan Lee also struck for the Lions.

Brickfield Rangers proved too strong for Meliden, Andy Vale (2), Aaron White and Harry Massey sharing the goals in a 4-0 breeze.

Dale Davies notched a treble, Louie Middlehurst a double, Ryan Williams and Jake Simms one apiece as Chirk AAA romped to a 7-0 result at Cefn Mawr Rangers.

Goals from Liam Davies and Mark Weir were not enough to save New Brighton Villa from a 3-2 loss at Hawarden Rangers.

Joel Rowlands (2) and Owain Jones earned Caer Clwyd a 3-1 verdict at Llangollen Town Reserves.

Ruthin Town impressed in a 3-1 triumph at Penycae.

Josh Jones put the Cymru North visitors ahead early on, but Evan Woodall levelled it on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, Matty Hill and Jamie Cummings added to Ruthin’s total and sealed the win.

Phil Lloyd scored twice and Jack James was on target with a screamer as Halkyn and Flint Mountain prevailed 4-0 at Railway Rovers.

Greenfield were electric in a 5-2 success at Saltney Town, Connor Hughes (2), John Newton (2) and Jack Pennington for the visitors, but the Bordermen did suffer with injuries and no shows.

Keiye Williams 2, Jack Radford and Owen Edwards combined to earn Sychdyn a narrow 4-3 win over Brymbo Victoria.
