Happy 18th birthday for yesterday to Leah Davies-Williams.
This young attacking player certainly comes from the right stock as her dad is former Holywell Town star Graeme Williams.
Graeme was a key man when the Wellmen made history in 2013-14 by becoming the only third-tier team ever to reach the Welsh Cup semi-finals.
And the following season he was prominent again as Holywell claimed the treble of Welsh Alliance League title, FAW Trophy and Barritt Cup.
Born on May 21, 2003, Leah began her career with a boys team named Mostyn Colts.
She made great progress, so much so that in September 2017 the former Flint High School pupil was chosen for the Wales Under-15 squad.
When Holywell Town Girls and Women joined the North Wales League for the first time in 2019-20, it was only natural they would want such a promising player as then 16-year-old Leah involved.
While the season was very much a learning curve in Division Two for the team, they did put up some good performances, including a 3-2 defeat against Caernarfon Town where Leah made the scoresheet.
Leah also played for Holywell that season in the North Wales Ladies Recreational League, where results went much better.
In one Group East clash, Leah netted a hat-trick in a 7-0 win against Pentre Hawks.
Like most other players in North Wales, Leah missed out completely on the 2020-21 season due to coronavirus.
When asked by Grassroots North Wales last year what her strengths are as a player, Leah replied: “I’m confident on the ball and always communicate well. I’m not scared to go in for a tackle, I also have a powerful shot and I’d say I’m quite a fast runner.”
And her weaknesses? “I don’t really have any skills on the ball, I get easily frustrated on the pitch.”
As for the best player she has worked alongside, the answer was easy. “Isabella Reidford. She is a quality player and always made a difference when we used to play for the same team.”
Isabella went on to represent Wales Under-17’s on several occasions.
Leah now looks forward to the prospect of playing football again in the 2021-22 season.
In the meantime, we hope you had a great birthday Leah. Thanks for all the laughs and support 🙂
