Penrhyn Bay’s Sophie Rawling talks about Wales Under-15 call-up

Sophie Rawling on the ball

Sophie Rawling of Penrhyn Bay Girls & Women is celebrating after being chosen in the Wales Under-15 squad for their forthcoming international against England next month.

It’s been a good few days for the youngster, who was part of the Bay side which reached the FAW Under-16 Girls Welsh Cup semi-finals at the weekend with an 8-0 victory over Northop Hall.

How does it feel to be picked for the Wales under 15 squad against England?

When I heard that I had been selected for the squad I was over the moon. I am excited and looking forward to the challenge.

Have you been selected for Wales before?

I have been to numerous Welsh camps over the years. I was selected for a 3 day camp last year but unfortunately due to Covid-19 it got cancelled. Football was put on hold. A camp was arranged in April 2021, from which the Welsh squad was selected.

What is your current favoured position and what assets do you possess to play in that position?

My favourite position is left wing/centre attacking midfield. I like playing in these positions as they allow me to be creative and get on the ball.

How does it feel to be back in competitive action after such a long lay off due to Covid?

I’ve really missed playing football and I couldn’t wait to get back playing with my club and regional team.

Who do you play football for this season?

Penrhyn Bay under 16 girls.

What have been your major highlights of your career so far?

One of my main highlights is when I was playing for Liverpool RTC a few years ago. We beat Manchester United 8-3 and I scored 5!
Another highlight for me is getting selected for the Welsh camps.

And well done Amy…..

Llandudno Academy player Amy Richardson has also been selected to play for Wales U15’s against England on May 9, earning her first cap in the process.
