Penrhyn Bay Girls & Women are into Welsh Cup last four after 8-0 victory

Penrhyn Bay Under-16’s advanced to the last four

Penrhyn Bay Girls & Women cruised into the semi-finals of the FAW Under-16 Girls Welsh Cup with an 8-0 victory over Northop Hall Girls.

Sunday’s all-North Wales quarter-final at Conwy was more one-sided than most had hoped for, but full credit to Hall for making the last eight.

In fairness to the Flintshire side, Penrhyn Bay are a very strong outfit who won this trophy back in 2018-19.

Bay led 4-0 at half time and added another four goals in the second period.

One of the Penrhyn coaches, Gareth Rawling, said: “We are so, so proud of the way the team played and we are looking forward to the semi finals now.”

Nel Metcalf, who grabbed the winner in the last round at NFA, added another two goals to her collection today.

Sophie Rawling, Erin Doran, Maddie Williams, Alys Davies, Polly Mcgregor and Mia Roberts added a goal apiece.

After featuring in regionalised draws throughout the competition so far, Penrhyn Bay will now take on South Wales opposition in the semis.

Northop Hall did well to reach the last eight

The North Wales girls could face a very impressive Barry Town United, who reached last season’s final only for it to be cancelled due to Covid-19.

Talycopa (Swansea), who made the semis last season, knocking out Penrhyn Bay on penalties in the last eight, are also still involved, as well as Caerleon (Newport area).

FAW Under-16 Girls Welsh Cup quarter-final results – Sunday, April 25

Chepstow Girls 1 Talycopa 3
Garden Village 1 Caerleon 3
Johnstown (west Wales) 2 Barry Town United 4
Penrhyn Bay 8 Northop Hall 0
