Chris Venables will become just the fifth Cymru Premier player to reach 200 league goals if he scores for Bala Town in tomorrow night’s Championship Conference crunch clash at Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The 35-year-old midfielder, winner of the CPL Golden Boot four times, moved up to 199 career goals in the national league after his double in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Caernarfon Town.
Venables finished league leading marksman in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 with Aberystwyth Town before achieving the feat for the first time with Bala last season.
His best total in a season is 28 and he is currently heading the chart on 21 for the present campaign, just one less than he managed last term with seven games still to play in Phase Two.
If (or when) he hits the 200-mark he will join Marc Lloyd Williams (319), Rhys Griffiths (271), Lee Hunt (209) and Michael Wilde (203) in an elite band of goalscorers to make the double century. Wilde got there this season for Connah’s Quay Nomads.
However, Venables is set to become the only midfielder to break the 200 barrier.
