Happy birthday Harrison Jones – one of Denbigh Cricket Club’s greatest

Happy birthday Harrison Jones

Welsh Cup winner and one of the finest all-rounders in the North Wales Cricket League – happy birthday Harrison Jones.

Born on April 16, 1994, this gifted performer with bat and ball is 27 today.

Harrison has spent the majority of his career with Denbigh Cricket Club, although he did enjoy two successful seasons at Colwyn Bay CC in the Liverpool Competition.

He started out playing junior cricket at Denbigh before making his debuts for both the first and second senior XI’s in 2007.

In 2008, as a 14-year-old his left-arm spinners earned him a stunning career best 7-10 off 13 overs playing for Denbigh’s first team in a triumph over Gresford.

The following year he recorded his first half-century for the seniors, posting 64 not out for the first team against Llandudno seconds in North Wales Division One.

Harrison (furthest left) was man of the match for Colwyn Bay when they won the 2015 Welsh Cricket Cup Final against Ammanford. He took a crucial 4-20.

Harrison joined Colwyn Bay in 2014 and the year after experienced one of his greatest days in cricket.

The all-rounder was named Man of the Match following a 4-20 haul off eight overs in the Welsh Cup Final at The Gnoll, Neath, against Ammanford of the South Wales Premier League.

Bay lifted the national cup for the first time with a six-wicket victory and also won the Liverpool Competition Division One title that season.

Harrison returned to his hometown club in 2016 and was made Denbigh CC first team captain in 2019.

In 2017, he celebrated his maiden ton for the club, scoring 118 at Connah’s Quay.

To date, Harrison has chalked up 4,193 league runs in 205 matches for the Ystrad Road club, his five centuries including a CB 126 against Hawarden Park in August 2018. He has also registered 22 half-tons.

With the ball, he has picked up 325 league wickets at 17.69, his finest return that 7-10 versus Gresford, one of seven ‘five fors’ for the Vale of Clwyd side.

For Colwyn Bay, Harrison scooped 63 wickets, his best form coming in cups where he claimed 38 victims, including a 5-13 BB in a Welsh Cup quarter-final against Llay Welfare.

He also scored 593 total runs for the Bay, 408 in the league and 185 in cups.

Harrison attempts a caught and bowled for Denbigh.

When asked to select his North Wales Dream Team two years ago, Llandudno skipper Jack Rimmington wrote this about Harrison: “Undoubtedly one of the top players in the Premier League now and is showing this every week.

“Started out as a stroke player but has now developed his game and can clear the rope all round the ground. He doesn’t just score runs, but plays important innings for his team when it is needed.

“Harrison is also a vastly improved left-arm spinner with the ball and gives another option when looking for wickets.”

Happy birthday Harrison have a great day and best wishes for the season ahead.
