Cymru Premier: Druids and Flint celebrate but gloom for Bala, Nomads and Cofis

While it was all doom and gloom for North Wales in the JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference on Saturday, it was a very different story in the Play-Off Conference.

Both Flint Town United and Cefn Druids gave their hopes of top-flight survival a big boost with priceless home wins.

Neil Gibson’s Flint side lifted themselves out of the bottom two with a 2-0 victory against Cardiff Met at the Essity Stadium.

Conor Harwood edged the Silkmen in front with a lovely finish six minutes before the break.

The points were all but sealed when Callum Bratley made it two in the 73rd minute with a left-foot strike following a right-wing corner.

On the minus side, Flint picked up eight bookings, with Alex Jones receiving two yellow cards and his marching orders on 78 minutes.

Cefn Druids remain bottom but closed the gap between them and the rest with a 90th minute decider in a 2-1 success over visitors Haverfordwest County.

Niall Flint broke the deadlock on 10 minutes with a sharp finish following a great low ball in from the right by Naim Arsan.

County levelled through Daniel Williams on 76 minutes via a goalmouth scramble.

It looked set for a draw, but two minutes into added time a beautiful ball from the left was taken marvellously in his stride by Charley Edge, who advanced and lashed home to secured three previous points.

In the Championship Conference, The New Saints are top on goal difference after Ryan Brobbel’s early strike booked a 1-0 win at Bala Town.

A fine result for new Saints boss Anthony Limbrick in his first game at the helm.

Champions Connah’s Quay are off the summit after suffering their first home defeat since March 2019, dark horses Penybont taking the spoils 2-0 at Deeside Stadium.

Kane Owen’s 21st minute penalty and a Kostya Georgievsky goal on 79 ensured Rhys Griffiths’ side went home with the points.

Caernarfon Town are now six points adrift at the Championship Conference basement after a cruel 1-0 home loss to Barry Town United.

Substitute Curtis Jemmett-Hutson drilled in a dramatic winner two minutes into added time.
