New series/Cyfres newydd – Coaches choose their North Wales women’s dream team: No 1 Ben Bolton (Bethel)

Tonight we begin a new series based on the selection of Dream Teams.

This time we ask managers and coaches of women’s sides in North Wales to choose their all-star female XI.

On this occasion, the person selecting the team cannot include players from their own club.

We kick off with CPD Merched Bethel manager Ben Bolton

Ben says: “I’ve gone for players not based on reputation but for the impact that they’ve had playing against Bethel/for us in the past.

“Players who have had an impact or been tough opponents.”

GOALKEEPER

Tracey Godsell

Was a tough choice between Llanfair United keeper Tracey and Rhyl’s Lauren Jones.
Llanfair’s keeper has always made life difficult for our forwards and has stood out in big games against us, played well against us in cup finals making big saves.

DEFENDERS

Centre Back – Leonie Prytherch

Due to the formation I’ve gone for she has to play CB but she was used as a wing back for Bethel.
On her day she is unplayable. Marauded down the right for us and scored all kinds of goals. Can use both feet too which makes her an asset.

Centre Back – Mary Bailey

Commanding presence in defence for Llanfair and she seems like a good leader. Solid defensively as well as a threat going forward.

Centre Back – Louisha Doran

First manager of newly-formed Colwyn Bay, ex-Llandudno and Everton. Rock solid at the back and can burst forward too, good range of passing and solid in a tackle.

MIDFIELDERS

CDM – Joy Jamieson

Very composed on the ball and comfortable in possession. Does the dirty work and allows her team mates to go and play. Controls the game from the middle of the park.

CM – Mary Griffiths

Quality on the ball and tactically aware off it. Good engine to get from box to box and her passing is very good.

CM – Anna Jones

Great left foot. Great range of passing and an eye for goal. Very composed in possession, great player.

CAM – Mari Gibbard

Fantastic player, quality on the ball, scores goals and gets assists. Hard working off the ball too and in training. One of the finest talents in North Wales in my opinion.

WINGERS

Left – Catrin Evans

Skill, pace and the ability to score and create. Fantastic during her time at Bethel from a young age and she’s done lots for Amlwch too, look forward to coming up against her in seasons to come.

Right – Kelsey Davies

Absolutely rapid and a wonderful dribbler, seen her play many times watching Llandudno and she always looks dangerous, ruthless and unselfish at the same time.

STRIKER

Laura Pennington

Was immense a few seasons ago for Northop and was hands down the league’s best player that year. Deadly in front of goal, everything she touched went in. That was in 2017-18. She has since played for The New Saints and currently at Wem Town, who have had a great FA Cup run.
