Ben Bolton assesses the play from the touchline

CPD Merched Bethel have a highly-rated, three-man coaching team guiding the senior side in the North Wales Women’s League.

One of them celebrates a birthday today – Benjamin Owen Bolton.

Born on February 20, 1992, as a player, Ben’s most notable football achievement in his junior days was scoring four goals for Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen of Caernarfon in a 5-4 Welsh Cup Final victory.

He played for Cae Glyn Juniors up to under-18 level, then went on to be a consistent goal scorer for Waunfawr and Llanrug United until a leg break set him back and he spent five years out of the game.

Ben started playing again two years ago with Llanberis.

He was also determined to make strides as a coach, starting out with the Caernarfon Under-12 girls team.

After four successful years with the Cofis, he moved on to Bethel, where he initially coached the U-14 and U-16 sides.

He has been the Bethel women’s team manager since 2017.

As a coach, Ben has won:
North Wales Girls Football League U-12 league title and U-12’s Cup
NWGFL U-14 league title and U-14 Cup (x2)
NWGFL U-16 Cup
NWCFA U-16 Cup (team and coaches pictured above)

In 2018-19, Ben led Bethel women to the joint North Wales League Division One title. The team also reached two cup finals that season.

Working alongside Lenny Jones and Aaron Jones-Evans, Ben also benefits from his wife Gwenno captaining the ladies team.

The couple were married in August 2018 and celebrated the birth of a son, Henri, on July 7, 2020.

Ben has great belief and ambition in the development of young players.

He has been instrumental in numerous youngsters at the club progressing from the junior sides into the senior set up.

The fruits have been there for all to see, with the outstanding talent aged 16-19 making their mark for the women’s team over the past three years.

Best wishes Ben – penblwydd hapus.
