Efa Williams is on cloud nine after being appointed team captain of Bangor University’s women’s rugby side next season.
The 20-year-old from Bethesda has made a tremendous impact since joining the team in the last campaign.
Before that she was mainly involved in football, being part of the Caernarfon Town squad which won the North Wales League and Betty Pickering Cup in 2016-17. She also represented the Canaries in the Welsh Premier Women’s League the following season.
However, rugby is now the focus of the scrum-half who notched 10 tries and landed more than 50 successful kicks at goal in her debut term.
Efa, who studies sport, health and physical education at Bangor, told Grassroots North Wales she is delighted with being given the team captain’s role.
She said: “I feel honoured; there is such a positive atmosphere and talent within the team. I am intending to keep all the good work and leadership from previous captains going and welcoming current and new players to the team with open arms.
“I’m so happy that the girls believe i could do a good job at it and have elected me to be the team captain for the 21/22 season. We can’t wait to have rugby back soon.”
Last season saw Efa win the Players’ Player award for 2019-20.
Coach Joe Simpson, an RGC player, said at the time: “A new player to our team this year, Efa has certainly proven her worth.
“Starting every game for us this season and scoring more points than anyone else on the team, she has shown her class and we are excited for two more years of her skills on the team.”
