Efa Williams in rugby action

All-round sportsman Efa Williams is 20 today.

Initially a big prospect for the Caernarfon Town ladies football team, in more recent years the pocket battleship has made her mark in rugby union.

Born on January 29, 2001, Efa is a former pupil of Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, Bethesda, where her sporting skills developed.

She first emerged in senior football towards the end of the 2016-17 season with Caernarfon Town.

Keith Fearns’ side had won the North Wales Women’s League in a canter and the astute manager decided it was time to blood some young talent.

Sixteen-year-olds Efa and Alishia Donohue were selected for the Betty Pickering Cup final and both made the scoresheet in a 5-1 victory over Pwllheli.

In 2017-18 and 2018-19, Efa enjoyed some game time for the Canaries on their return to the Welsh Premier Women’s League, but the experience was generally a difficult one for The Oval side, who resigned from the top flight early in the latter campaign.

Efa had always shown a flair for rugby and decided her future may lie in the oval-ball game. As well as playing for Caernarfon and Bangor, she was chosen for the RGC Under-18 team.

In 2019-20, the scrum-half had a magnificent season for Bangor University, featuring in every game and landing the Player’s Player award.

She finished up top points scorer for the team, notching 10 tries and over 50 conversions, giving her a total of 164 points.
