Darren Lewthwaite can bring pace and finishing ability to any attack

Darren Lewthwaite (stripes) is always a handful for any defence

When Aberffraw signed striker Darren Lewthwaite last September they knew only too well what they were getting.

In the previous season, Darren netted twice for Gaerwen in an 8-0 thrashing of Berffro.

The player had signed for Glantraeth in summer 2020, but decided to switch camps to Cae Cynlas six months ago.

And this is what the Aberffraw website said at the time: “Daz has done well in pre season and has always been a thorn in our side whenever he has played against us.”

Unfortunately, Berffro have not had the opportunity to see what Darren can do for them in competitive action yet with the 2020-21 season cancelled for leagues below tier 2 due to Covid-19.

However, as Darren celebrates his 32nd birthday today, he will no doubt be itching to get started at his new club.

Born on March 2, 1989, Darren hails from Llanfaes, near Beaumaris.

Aberffraw is the sixth stop in the front man’s career, which has also seen him turn out for Menai Bridge Tigers, Gaerwen, Pentraeth, Beaumaris Town and Glantraeth, where he never got to kick a competitive ball.

Darren’s best season to date is 2015/16, when he notched 20 goals. He hit 11 for Gaerwen, where he formed a great partnership up front with marquee signing Mel McGinness, and also netted nine times for Menai Bridge in the same campaign.

In 2016/17, Darren moved to Pentraeth and recorded his best goals total in a season for a single club of 14.

After joining Beaumaris Town in 2017/18, he spent the next two seasons with Gaerwen, where his steady goalscoring record continued.

A pacy attacker and a real handful for any defence, Darren can add quality and depth to any team’s attacking options.

He is a great player to have on your side and a loyal friend. He was very supportive to me once and I won’t forget it.

Have a smashing birthday Darren, it is hard at present for any of us to celebrate like we are used to, but you deserve a special day.
