My North Wales women’s dream team: Alaw Davies-Smith (Corwen)

Corwen Ladies coach Alaw Davies-Smith today selects team 19 in the series of North Wales Women’s Dream XI’s.

In picking her side, the former Rhyl defender follows previous ‘managers’ Nia Wyn Ellis, Annmarie Jones, Fflur Williams, Chelsea Evans, Abby Williams, Gwenno Gibbard Bolton, Lexi Crawley, Claire Colville, Cerys Gadd, Libby McClelland, Meinir Thomas, Erica Jones, Rachel Roberts, Beca Williams, Mari Gibbard, Emily Jones, Cara Wyn Hughes and Catrin Wyn Thomas.

GOALKEEPER

Del Morgan

Played with Del at Rhyl for a few seasons, and always felt comfortable with her in goal. Very vocal, motivating, and a great keeper. The fact she played for Liverpool, Everton and Wales Under-19 says everything about her ability.

DEFENDERS

Louisha Doran

Have come up against Louisha many times, and played alongside her for North Wales. Very strong defender, great pace, versatile, and lethal in front of goal.

Jemila Bukari

Very strong player. Never came up against Jimmy, but she was always solid in defence. To be nominated for Welsh Premier Player of the Season says it all.

Llinos Hughes

Llinos (back row – centre) with NFA team-mates Abi Bradley, Yasmin Mills, Libby McClelland, Chloe Evans and Rachel Lloyd

Had the pleasure of coaching Lily at Rhyl Under-16’s. Great player to coach as she has a willingness to learn, also a very strong player with great skill.

Tonicha Dickens

Performed alongside TJ for years. Puts in a great tackle when it’s needed. Also has a great shot on her.

MIDFIELD

Kelsey Davies

Always a nightmare to defend against as she is so quick and has great ball control.

Llywela Seiriol Edwards

Haven’t had much chance to play with Llywela (Covid!), but every game she played she had a huge impact on the team. Is solid in defence and has the ability to strike a ball from almost anywhere.

Sofie Owen

Sofie Owen (yellow kit)

Another player that’s solid in defence and can attack very well. Doesn’t hesitate to put in a great tackle. Great servant to Llandudno over the years, one of their best.

Paige Williams

Had the pleasure of playing down the right side of the pitch with Paige for quite a few seasons when we were at Rhyl. A very quick player, with great footwork.

STRIKERS

Rosie Hughes

Another nightmare to defend against as she is very quick. She has scored some great goals over the years – and many of them for the likes of Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Denbigh.

Erin Maloney

Young Bethel striker who was leading scorer in all competitions in the North Wales League in 2019-20. She has great strength and pace, is very skillful, and can let fly with a fierce shot from almost anywhere.
