A member of one of Holyhead’s best-known football families celebrates a birthday today.

Attacking midfielder Jordie Murphy, who signed for Holyhead Hotspur last summer, turns 28.

He is one of five footballing brothers, all of whom played together for the now sadly disbanded Morawelon FC around 10 years ago.

The other four siblings are Nick, Sean, Mike and Dale.

Jordie progressed through Hotspur’s youth system as a junior, but has gone on to represent a number of other clubs in the senior game.

Born on February 15, 1993, Jordie first made his mark as part of the Morawelon side which won the NWCFA Junior Cup and Anglesey League title in 2011/12.

The Holyhead-based team, featuring all five of the Murphy lads, also lifted the Bet Fred Trophy, to make it a debut campaign treble.

The following season, Morawelon finished runners-up in the Anglesey League despite scoring a remarkable 153 goals in 24 league games. In all competitions, Jordie notched 29 goals, while brother Dale hit 39, Barry Haigh 44 and Asa Thomas 48.

Morawelon were second again in 2013-14 and disbanded at the end of the season.

In 2014/15, Jordie split his time between Trearddur Bay United and Gaerwen.

The following campaign was a very special one for Trearddur as they landed the Welsh Alliance Division One title at the first attempt, Jordie netting 12 goals. He added another 13 for Bay in 2016-17.

With Trearddur disbanded, Jordie joined the revitalised Holyhead Town in 2017-18 and grabbed 18 goals as the Harbourmen were crowned Gwynedd League champions.

That made it a treble of Anglesey, Gwynedd and Welsh Alliance titles for Jordie in his career.

He remained at Holyhead in 2018-19, but the following season, after the Harbourmen withdrew from Welsh Alliance Division Two and ran just the one team in the Anglesey League, Jordie moved to Cymru North club Llangefni Town. .

This all-action midfield man has netted well in excess of 100 goals in his senior career and now has another chance to shine in tier-two Cymru North with Hotspur, if the season starts as promised next month.

Jordie is partner to Katie Michelle and the couple have a son Cody James, with another arrival on the way in 2021!

Happy birthday Jordie and hope 2021 is a great year for all the family.
