Female football is well and truly starting to thrive at Denbigh Town FC

Denbigh Town are well on their way to building a strong women’s team under new manager Jordie Baker.

However, the man at the helm’s aims go much further than that.

Jordie explained: “Since taking over as Denbigh Town Ladies manager around 5 months ago we have focused attention all over the club.

“The number one target was to cement a squad for the ladies which we have achieved comfortably.

“The number two target for the club and myself was to establish the Girls set up within the club.

“Having come from a background of girls football I felt we could strengthen the set up with the club.

“The main focus was to make sure it was a community driven programme focusing on allowing local children to access fun and adorable football.

“Again this has been a success with over 50 girls now accessing our session. On top of this success we as a club have expanded our coaching staff and development.

“We have put 5 coaches on FAW-led courses to help improve not only them but the girls they coach too. We have put two coaches on a FAW C licence, 3 on an FAW first aid course, 2 on a FAW Safeguarding award and 3 on a FAW Football leaders award.

“We have used players from our ladies squad to help coach our junior sides and have started offering them courses to improve their knowledge of coaching. It gives the children they are coaching an aspiration to one day want to play football for the first team.”

Jordie and his crew have also contacted schools to welcome girls of any age and any ability into the club to help give them a social aspect to life that at these challenging times is needed more than ever.

He added: “We will continue to better ourselves in the coming months and years. It is fundamental that we continue to build a pathway for local footballers within the area to one day represent the club at senior level and even progress onto a national level.

If we can get the small things right at U8 etc we as a club can build special players.”

Next season the FAW will introduce under-19 development leagues for tier 2 as part of a pyramid shake-up design to boost female football provision across the country.

Denbigh does not plan to be left behind as Jordie confirms.

“Next season we plan to introduce an U-19 squad to compete in the local league.

There are a few aspects that need to be discussed with the logistics of the league but the fundamentals are there.

“We currently have eight U-19 players in our senior squad, four of which made their debuts last week. This is the perfect step for those who aren’t ready for senior football at that exact time, it’s all about timing.

“We have plans that are in place regarding this with Ben Rogerson, my assistant who I brought in from managing an U-18 men’s side the previous season with the knowledge of managing players of that age bracket and nurturing them ready for senior football.

“Without our coaches we wouldn’t be what we are and there is always room for more coaches to help improve our players.”
