Played six won six – Bodedern’s perfect start in the North Wales Coast League West Premier Division continued tonight at Maes Meurig.
Ricky Williams’ side remain in the leading four with a 100 percent record but were given a good test by a Gwalchmai outfit which has much improved recently.
Boded took a third-minute lead through Jordie Murphy, but Dion Owen levelled for Liam Ewing’s side on 15.
Marc Evans, playing against one of his former clubs, made it 2-1 Athletic with his 22nd goal in all competitions this term.
However, Gwalch would not be discouraged, and in the 25th minute gifted 16-year-old Connor Owen made it all-square.
It was 2-2 at half time, at which point the visitors brought on the prolific Asa Thomas as a substitute.
With the scores still level, Carl Jones pulled off an early second-half penalty save for Boded from Dion Owen which could well have been the game turner.
And the substitution paid dividends, as Thomas struck on 55 and 60 minutes, with his 21st and 22nd goals of the campaign to seal a fine win – Boded’s fourth on their travels out of six victories in all.
Credit to both sides for rearranging the fixture on a weekend where the NWCFA Junior Cup has taken up so many officials, causing the North Wales Coast West programme to be all but wiped out.
