One of Anglesey’s finest footballers of recent years reaches the age of 30 today.
Defender Tom Taylor is well known on Ynys Môn for his footballing heroics, having been part of the 2019 Inter-Island Games gold medal-winning squad.
Two years earlier he had captained Môn in the 2017 Gotland Island Games.
These days Tom plays his club football in the Southern League Premier Division Central for Bromsgrove Sporting.
He played all of his youth years in Shropshire and was at Shrewsbury Town for a spell, but most of his adult career has been spent playing in North Wales for teams such as Porthmadog. Caernarfon Town, Pentraeth, Glantraeth, Holyhead Hotspur and Llangefni Town.
The 30-year-old was formerly a striker and netted a massive 58 goals for Pentraeth in 2012/13.
Injuries, however, forced him to convert into a defender and it has proved a real success.
Born on February 6, 1991, Tom has won plenty of honours, yet regards two matches from the same season as the highlights of his career.
One took place in June 2019, when he was part of the Ynys Môn team which beat Guernsey 2-1 in the Inter-Island Games Final staged at Holyhead.
More than 3,000 were at Holyhead Hotspur’s stadium to see Môn repeat their gold medal triumph of 1999.
The other major milestone happened the previous month – the Southern League Division One Central Play-Off Final. In a game that had everything, Bromsgrove beat Corby Town 4-3 in extra time.
Another massive high for Tom was representing Wales in the Uefa Regions Cup for North Wales Coast while playing for Glantraeth.
He was one of a number of Anglesey-based players which flew the flag for Cymru in the 2014/15 tournament.
Coast defeated West Wales 2-1 in the Welsh Final and went on to the group stages in Estonia.
Coast claimed Wales’ first-ever win in the finals when they defeated Northern Estonia 3-1. Their next two matches ended in narrow losses, 1-0 to Dostyk of Kazakhstan and 2-1 against IV Vastergotland of Sweden.
NWCFA were later awarded another three points as the Kazakhs fielded an ineligible player.
Tom can look back on many fine days in his career and hopefully there are many more to come.
Happy birthday Tom.
