Birthday wishes to midfield magician Ricky Jones of Llandudno Albion

Ricky Jones (red) in action for Llandudno Albion

Ricky Jones has to rank as one of the most consistent midfielders ever to perform in the former Welsh Alliance League.

Throughout spells with the likes of Llandudno Junction, Conwy United and Llandudno Albion, Ricky has been top class at tier 3 level since the age of 16.

Born on December 21, 1989, today he celebrates his 31st birthday.

As well as possessing all the attributes of the classic midfielder, Ricky also scores plenty of goals. He also has a penchant for netting goals of the spectacular variety, specialising in long range efforts.

On top of his club successes, Ricky has also represented North Wales Coast FA in the Uefa Regions Cup.

A very fit footballer who can bring others into the game, he can play out wide either side or centrally.

For the past four seasons, Ricky has been part of Llandudno Albion’s rise to prominence.

He joined the club in 2016-17 and bagged a magnificent 20 goals in his debut campaign.

His first competitive goal for the Maesdu Park outfit came in a 7-1 Welsh Cup thrashing of Llanfairpwll.

Ricky’s first hat-trick for the Albion was delivered in a 6-1 victory over Llannerchymedd. He added another treble later in the season in an 8-1 demolition of Blaenau Amateurs.

In 2017-18, Ricky notched perhaps the most famous goal in Albion’s history to date – a late winner in a 3-2 giant-killing of Cymru Alliance side Rhyl in the Welsh Cup.

That same season saw Albion lift the Mawddach Cup.

Ricky has continued to score consistently over the past two seasons, also helping his team reach their first FAW Trophy final. Sadly, the game was never played due to Covid-19 ending the season early.

Ricky is seventh on the all-time Albion goalscorers list with 39.

Football talent runs in the family, as Ricky’s brother Toby has played in the Welsh Premier for Llandudno, Rhyl, Airbus and Neath.

And dad Barry is a former Conwy United manager.

Happy birthday Ricky, have a special day.
