Bethesda Athletic’s young side rattle up six goals in friendly

Bethesda manager Mark Hughes was pleased with his young side

Bethesda Athletic 6 (Tomos Hughes 2, Joe Todd 2, Tomos Eames, Rhun Morris)
Llandegfan 0

A very young and enthusiastic Bethesda side were on sparkling form in their opening friendly at Plas Ffrancon Leisure Centre’s 3G pitch.

Eleven of manager Mark Hughes’ 13 players were aged under 20.

This clash of tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One teams saw Pesda make a lightning fast start with a goal after just two minutes.

A quick breakaway led to Daniel Hughes’ through ball releasing Tomos Hughes to find the net.

New signing Joe Todd then scored with a shot from outside the box and Tomos Eames soon followed suit with a similar goal.

Before the break Rhun Morris finished with a powerful strike from a tight angle, making it 4-0 at the interval.

In the second half, Tomos Hughes collected his second goal with a 25-yard effort which flew into the top corner.

Todd then added his second of the night by heading in a corner.

A pleasing result for Pesda, not so for opponents Llandegfan, but scores are largely immaterial at present with all clubs below tier 1 yet to start their seasons.

What is more important is teams getting minutes under their belts in these pre-season friendlies.

Llandegfan report

Not much more to say other than a very bad night at the office for Llandeg.

A young but determined and well-organised Bethesda side came flying out of the blocks and went ahead in the first minute with a good finish.

A 4-0 lead for the home team at half time put us out of the game once more before two more goals followed late on.

Changes were made from Saturday and there was a debut for 3 new faces, but no excuses here – we were miles off from where we want to be and must learn lessons from this one ahead of our next match which is another tough one v Mountain Rangers on Saturday.

Best of luck to Bethesda next season, I really think they’ll surprise a few teams.

Men of the Match

Sam Short (sponsored by @slik7_performance)
In a game full of mistakes from us it has to be said that Sammy was superb once again, constantly closing down the Bethesda threat down the right wing.

Lee Morris (sponsored by @jaspersparkle)
Lee was also terrific on what was his first 90 mins this year. He really stood out at LB and we can’t wait to see what else he can do in weeks to come.
We felt we should choose both of them as our MOTM for their determination.
