Caernarfon Town FC will not operate during two-week ‘fire breaker’ lockdown

Caernarfon Town has announced it will not be ‘business as usual’ during the two-week lockdown starting this Friday.

On Monday, the Welsh Government announced the suspension of the elite programme which covers the Cymru Premier throughout the period of the ‘fire-breaker’ (October 23 to November 9).

The Welsh Government did stipulate, however, that clubs who complied with the following criteria, would be allowed to continue playing during the short lockdown:

1) Sportspeople who work and earn a living through sport are allowed to continue working, and like everyone else they can leave home to do so if they cannot work from home.
2) Fixtures involving professional sportspeople are allowed to continue behind closed doors. All participants, such as players, officials, coaches, and broadcasters, are there in a working capacity.

The JD Cymru Premier League consulted with its members overnight and decided to sanction some fixtures between clubs who could safely meet the stipulated criteria.

Some clubs, understandably, did not feel they had enough off-field professional staff to fully meet the stated requirements during this difficult period, one of them being Caernarfon Town.

The club released the following short statement: “To clarify our position, Caernarfon Town Football Club does not have the required amount of professional staff to continue during the lockdown and therefore we will not play any further matches until the lockdown has been completed.”

Caernarfon’s home matches against Aberystwyth Town (Oct 24) and Barry Town United (Nov 7), plus their visit to Flint Town United (Oct 30) will be postponed.
