Players staying loyal to one club for a decade or more is a rare thing these days.
So CPD Aberffraw can be proud of and truly celebrate having someone of the calibre of Richard Roberts in their ranks.
And Richard himself can celebrate today – the occasion of his 31st birthday.
Grassroots North Wales has Anglesey goals records dating back to 2011-12 – that’s eight seasons.
And over that time, Richard has bagged 138 goals for Berffro.
That’s an impressive total from the man affectionately nicknamed Pdoing.
Richard’s most formidable season in front of goal was 2016-17, when he netted 37 times in all competitions, securing him joint-second place in the Bob Brodie Trophy.
That season also saw Aberffraw finish Gwynedd League runners-up, just two points behind champions Bodedern.
Berffro also went on an awesome run in the FAW Trophy, knocking out former winners Llanrug United 3-2 before also eliminating higher division Llanllyfni 5-2. Richard scored a hat-trick in the first 25 minutes at King George V Field.
Another great season for Richard was 2018-19 when he pocketed 25 goals for the Cae Cynlas club, who finished an excellent fifth in Welsh Alliance Division Two.
And Pdoing was also bang on the button in 2015-16, when Berffro were a mid-table Gwynedd League side, but also registered some big cup upsets.
In the Welsh Cup, they dumped out Welsh Alliance Gaerwen and Llanrwst United, while also seeing off Abergele in the FAW Trophy.
Richard put away 27 goals in this campaign.
In fact, when it comes to vital cup goals, Roberts has been quite a master over the years.
In 2018-19, he struck twice and was man of the match as Welsh Alliance Division Two Berffro stunned Division One Bodedern 2-1 away.
And in 2017-18, Richard also scored two in Aberffraw’s surprise 3-1 success at Trearddur Bay United in the Welsh Cup.
Happy birthday and here’s to many more goals for a great character and footballer from the isle of Anglesey.
