Here is our all-time CPD Glantraeth XI

Glantraeth’s most successful team ever – the 2005/06 Cymru Alliance double winners. The front row includes Robert Williams (dark top) and Warren Gibbs (armband)

Glantraeth Football Club was formed back in 1984.

In the ensuing 36 years, the Anglesey-based outfit have won numerous honours, the highlight being the Cymru Alliance League title and Cup double of 2005/06.

Some outstanding players have represented the club over the decades.

Here is Grassroots North Wales’ All-Time Glantraeth XI

PAUL PRITCHARD (goalkeeper)

Paul Pritchard lifts the 2019 Inter-Island Games Shield for Ynys Môn

Produced heroic performances in two of Glantraeth’s greatest wins – Welsh Cup victories over Bangor City (penalties, 2003-04) and Cefn Druids (2-0, 2004-05).

Captained Ynys Môn to the Inter-Island Games title in 2019, is a Wales semi-pro international, has played in the FA Cup (for Warrington Town) and the Europa League (for Rhyl).

Made more than 100 Welsh Premier appearances and regarded by many as Anglesey’s finest-ever non-pro keeper.

TONY JACKSON (defender)

Tony Jackson (fourth left – back row) is included in this Glantraeth team from 1993/94, as is Ian Fidler (back row – furthest left)

One of the Welsh Alliance’s top defenders of the 1990s, a key man in Bob Brodie’s side of the mid-decade.

DARREN JONES (defender)

The evergreen Darren Jones

Solid left-back who played in the 2005/06 Cymru Alliance double winning team.

Twice featured for Bangor City as a substitute against Yugoslavia’s Sartid Smederevo in the 2002/03 UEFA Cup.

Still going strong at 42 with Menai Bridge Tigers.

WARREN GIBBS (defender)

Has certainly made his mark in Glantraeth’s history as he captained the team to the Cymru Alliance League and Cup double in 2005/06 and then managed the 2016/17 Welsh Alliance Division One and Cookson Cup winners.

Commanding central defender who has played for most of Anglesey’s top clubs.

KEITH ROSS (defender)

A member of the great Llangefni Town sides of the late 1980s and early 90s, Ross was an inspirational centre-half for Glan in the mid-90s.

MARK OWENS (midfield)

Creative, good crosser of the ball and an eye for goal. Owens has also worn the colours of Cemaes Bay and Bethesda Athletic.

ROBERT WILLIAMS (midfield)

Midfield/forward who scored so many vital goals in the successful 2005/06 campaign.

Joined from Porthmadog and also played for Cemaes Bay and Caernarfon Town.

EMRYS JONES (midfield)

Played in the same successful Llangefni team as Ross before becoming an effective goal scoring midfielder for Glantraeth in the 1990s.

Later became part of the management set-up at Cae Trefdraeth. Sadly left us in 2017.

CORRIG McGONIGLE

Amazingly talented front man closing in on 300 career goals at the age of 23.

In 2016/17, he smashed Glantraeth’s most goals in a season record, scoring 59 times in all across all competitions and 41 in the league alone.

Glan were crowned Welsh Alliance Division One champions and Cookson Cup winners that season, after which Corrig moved on as the club decided not to accept promotion to the Cymru Alliance.

NIGEL MOORE (striker)

Natural goalscorer, blessed with pace and great finishing ability.

Deadly marksman for Glantraeth in the 1990s and 2000s, bagging 41 in the 2002-03 campaign.

Also played a lot of football with Holyhead teams.

IAN FIDLER (striker)

Record goalscorer and one of Glantraeth’s best-known players, turning out for the club over a number of seasons in the 1980s and 90s.

Was top marksman for the club four seasons in a row between 1985-86 and 1988-89. Is now club secretary.
