Pwllheli Ladies make five top class new signings

Pwllheli Ladies have made five top class signings for the 2020-21 season.

Katie Bowe, Sioned Bohana, Elena Julio and Kim Broadbent have all moved across from the disbanded Mountain Rangers, while Charley Davies joins from the also folded Llanberis.

All five are ex-Caernarfon Town players and will massively boost a Pwllheli squad managed by Erica Jones with Andrew ‘Lefty’ Wright as coach.

Here is a rundown on the new quintet:

Charley Davies

Tall 17-year-old midfielder who was outstanding for Llanberis in their debut (and only) season in the North Wales Women’s League.

Specialises in long range free kicks and is an accurate passer.

Played for Caernarfon in the Welsh Premier Women’s League as a 15-year-old.

Katie Bowe

One of the true stars of North Wales women’s football.

First made her name with Caernarfon Town when they competed in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Northern Conference and won the title in 2009-10.

The Canaries made it back-to-back Northern championships in 2010-11, Katie scoring twice in a title-clinching 2-0 win over Wrexham.

She also grabbed a hat-trick as Town beat Llandudno Junction 4-1 to lift the Maurice Naylor Cup.

During this spell, Caernarfon met Swansea City twice in the all-Wales WPWL final and also in the Welsh Cup Final, losing to the Swans on each occasion.

Katie remained with the Cofis when the WPWL went fully national in 2012-13, but later joined Llandudno Junction (who were to become Llandudno).

In 2015-16 she was a pivotal member of the Llandudno side which reached the Welsh Cup Final.

Tudno lost 5-2 but Bowe put the North Wales side ahead with a stunning long range strike which made her the first women’s player to be nominated for the Sgorio Goal of the Month award.

Injuries held her back for the next couple of seasons before she rejoined Caernarfon, whose ill-fated Welsh Premier return ended just five games into the 2018-19 season when the club resigned.

Last term saw Katie sign for Mountain Rangers. She scored seven goals on debut and netted 11 times in six games, but the season was cut short by Covid-19.

Famous for her long range goals, pinpoint set-piece deliveries and precision passing.

Sioned Bohana

Defender Bohana has spent the majority of her football career with Caernarfon Town, having started playing the game in her years at Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen.

She was a member of Caernarfon’s 2016-17 North Wales Women’s League title-winning side, scoring a hat-trick in one game, and represented the Cofis on numerous occasions in the Welsh Premier.

The hard-tackling defender was with Llandudno last season, performing brilliantly at the back before the team resigned from the Welsh Premier Women’s League in December 2019.

Sioned then moved on to Mountain Rangers, where again she excelled.

Elena Julio

An outstanding goalkeeper and more than capable outfield player, Elena began her football career playing for Caernarfon-based Cae Glyn United Under-9 boys.

She went on to feature in goal for several seasons at Caernarfon Town, helping the team win the North Wales League title in 2016-17.

Elena had a spell at Llandudno before signing for newly-formed Mountain Rangers in 2018, where she was a major influence for two seasons before the team folded this summer.

A whole-hearted player, coach and manager, she has won a host of trophies in her career.

Kim Broadbent

Regarded as one of the best defenders in North Wales, Broadbent is a renowned dead-ball specialist.

Broadbent began her career at Bangor City and was originally a forward until manager Keith Fearns converted her into a centre-back with great effect.

When the team changed identity to become Caernarfon Town Ladies in 2010, Broadbent was soon a regular in the side.

She has won the North Wales League four times and League Cup on six occasions.

Signed for Mountain Rangers last season.
