NEW SERIES: My 5 best goals: Cory Williams (Caernarfon Town)

Cory Williams in action for former Conference South side Weston-super-Mare from Somerset

Today we kick off a new series where we ask North Wales footballers to choose their 5 best career goals.

And what a brilliant first player we’ve chosen for the hot seat – Caernarfon Town’s new signing Cory Williams.

I wasn’t expecting to find an FA Cup goalscorer first up, but Cory achieved that very feat back in 2014-15.

The 24-year-old from Caernarfon now runs us through his five personal finest net-finders.

Weston-super-Mare AFC 3 Banbury United 0 – FA Cup second qualifying round (September 27, 2014)

I was on loan to Weston-super-Mare, then of the Conference South, from Bristol City Under-21’s when I got the opportunity to play in the FA Cup.

I got slipped through on my left foot and hit it in the near post! We won 3-0 and eventually went on to play v Doncaster Rovers of League 1 in the first round proper (lost 4-1).

That FA Cup goal is my favourite simply because it was in the FA Cup!

Nice that I can say I’ve scored in the best cup competition in the world!
(Cory sent me a video clip of this goal).

Hyde 3 Colwyn Bay 2 – Northern Premier League (2015-16)

This was my first goal in the Northern Premier. Good work down the right, early ball in for me and I tucked it away with my left foot!

(Cory also provided a clip of this goal)

Chelmsford City 3 Weston-super-Mare 2 – Conference South (2014-15)

First goal in the Conference South.

Came on last 10. Again good work down the right and it was a cut back, then I whipped it into the bottom left corner. Lost 3-2 but again good to score in that league.

Llangefni Town 4 Caernarfon Town 4 (Welsh Cup 2016-17 – Caernarfon won on pens)

Tight game.. 2-2 at the time.

Playing for Caernarfon, I picked the ball up on the left, cut inside 30 yards out (ish) and fired a rocket into the top corner. Loved that goal!

Conwy Borough 3 Barmouth and Dyffryn 0 (Cookson Cup Final 2018)

We were 2-0 up when I scored in the 88th minute to clinch the Cookson Cup at Y Traeth, Porthmadog.

Corrig (McGonigle) slipped me in, it was a tight angle but I slotted under the keeper to seal the game.

Also fondly remember scoring in the 2017-18 FAW Trophy semi for Conwy against Penydarren to set us on our way to the final.

Great ball by Brendun Hogan and I smashed it into the top corner!
