It may have been a shortened season but there were still a multitude of positives to look back on in CPD Merched Bethel’s annual awards celebration.

Due to coronavirus lockdown rules, the event was held over the internet, with the various category winners announced by the management.

Player of the Season went to Anest Hâf Roberts, the 17-year-old defender who has made a fantastic impression since breaking into the first team last term.

Manager Ben Bolton highlighted Anest’s excellent display in the Welsh Cup at Cymru Premier champions Swansea City, labelling her the team’s most consistent player of the last 18 months and “hands down the best centre-half I’ve seen in the women’s game, no question.” High praise indeed!

In her debut season with the first team, defender Beca Williams, 17 today (June 11), did amazingly well to earn the Players’ Player of the Season accolade.

Chosen by a huge majority, Beca has had a massive influence on the squad with her hard work, quality and infectious personality.

This year’s Young Player of the Season award went jointly to fellow defenders Llio Henshaw and Beca Williams.

Top Scorer with 21 goals and winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award was Erin Maloney.

She scored more goals than anyone else in women’s senior football across North Wales and since joining Division One has performed tremendously up front against older and more experienced defenders.

Despite the early halt to the season, Bethel had plenty to feel good about.

They reached the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup, narrowly beaten by Swansea City, and made it to the NEWFA Cup final, which was never played.

They finished unbeaten in the league, ending up second in Division One, with still so much promise of pushing for the title.

The team also maintained their incredible unbeaten home run that stands since September 2018.

Manager Bolton and coaches Aaron Jones-Evans and Lenny Jones all spoke in glowing terms about the squad’s efforts.

Ben Bolton

Bolton said: “Well done to all our award winners tonight, but an even bigger well done to the squad as a whole!

“This is by far the strongest squad we have ever had at this football club and going forward we are going to get stronger and stronger.

“We have had so many new players in the past season that have had such a huge affect on the team, many players who haven’t quite been able to play as much due to commitments, injuries and the pandemic, but Lenny Jones, Aaron Jones-Evans and I would like to thank every single player for their hard work, effort and heart throughout the season.

“Although there are award winners, we couldn’t do what we do without the squad effort and every single player involved, we’re very proud of all of you and we cannot wait to start working with you all next season. The future’s bright.”
