Prestatyn Town chairman steps down – new man appointed

Prestatyn Town chairman Neal Colakoglu has stepped down with immediate effect due to “personal circumstances”.

He will pass on the prestigious baton to Jamie Welsh, a Merseysider who took over the running of the club as of today and will be responsible for bringing in financial investment to the Seasiders.

Welsh said: “I would like to thank Neal and his fellow directors for giving me this fantastic opportunity. The club has real potential and I look forward to fulfilling its potential.

“It’s obvious to see that we have a fantastic team on the pitch and the best manager in Wales.”

Town recently won the tier-two Cymru North title for a third time but have been refused promotion to the Cymru Premier on appeal by the FAW as the club failed to meet the necessary criteria. The stumbling block was a TV gantry considered unsuitable for broadcasting needs.

Prestatyn are still considering whether to take legal action on the matter.

New chairman Welsh added: “It’s unfortunate, although not confirmed yet, that we will be playing in the Cymru North next season.

“I met with the players last night to outline the club’s plans in the short and long term and I now look forward to helping Gibbo and the team go out and win the league again.

“These lads and the club deserve to be playing at the highest level. Over the next couple of days the club will be announcing how I plan to restructure the club off the field, lastly all I can say is ‘We Are Town’.”

A general club statement added: “The club would like to go on record to thank Neal for his time at the club.

Neal took over the club when the future looked bleak, and in the hot seat he immediately brought back Gibbo which steered the club from relegation-threatened to the season after, where we found ourselves Cymru North champions and Welsh Cup semi-finalists.”

A planned Zoom Meeting will take place tomorrow night (Thursday) 7pm where fans will get the chance to meet Jamie and his team and have an opportunity to ask him questions regarding the club.

If you would like to be part of the meeting contact the club via social media and they will add you.
