Asa Thomas has passed the 500-goals career mark

Asa Thomas has more than 500 senior career goals to his credit

Anglesey hotshot Asa Thomas has passed 500 senior career goals, Grassroots North Wales can reveal.

After finding stats for his first three seasons in senior football, it is now official that the 29-year-old has amassed 514 goals in total.

When beginning the latest season at Holyhead Town, the striker was already on 502 goals – thanks to stats confirmed by former team-mate Gary Jo Owen, himself a renowned net-finder.

Asa scored 19 times for the club before the first team resigned from the Welsh Alliance League in December 2019, meaning all their records in Division Two were expunged.

Thomas returned to Holyhead Hotspur in December and added 10 more goals for the club, four for the firsts and six for the reserves, bringing his current career tally at the end of the 2019-20 season to 514 (it would be 531 but the 17 scored for Holyhead Town first team in 2019-20 are now void).

The goal machine first appeared at Holyhead Gwelfor Athletic as a 16-year-old in 2007-08. He spent two seasons with Gwelfor, piling up 69 goals, before moving on to Holyhead Town in 2009-10.

Thomas’ most memorable campaign so far was 2010/11, when he amassed 112 goals from just 47 appearances for Trearddur Bay United.

He chalked up 25 hat-tricks in an amazing season for the club, who won the Anglesey League, Dargie Cup, Megan Cup and Thomas and Williams Cup quadruple, as well as reaching the second round proper of the Welsh Cup.

Since that campaign, Asa has topped 40 goals in a season five times and proven he can score at higher levels by finding the net regularly in the Gwynedd League, Welsh Alliance and, briefly, the Huws Gray Alliance with Holyhead Hotspur.

He has also been a lethal marksman with Morawelon and Gaerwen.

Asa has won a host of honours in the game and represented the North Wales Coast FA squad at the UEFA Regions Cup.

He is now a member of the very elite 500-plus goals club in North Wales football.

Other notable high scorers in North Wales history are: Euryn Williams (Bro Cernyw) 683, Tommy Welsh (Holyhead Town) 631 and Don Spendlove (Rhyl) 629.
