Runners tackled Star Wars virtual challenge

Carla Green was first female runner home in the Star Wars virtual challenge

Nine North Wales Road Runners Club athletes took part in the Star Wars ‘May the 4th be with you,’ virtual 4-mile challenge on Monday, with two members winning their age categories and another claiming 2nd spot.

In these difficult times of lockdown, some 66 runners representing 10 different clubs, individually ran a total of 256 miles in this extraordinary virtual race to commemorate a Star Wars milestone.

Due to the current restrictions, and to help keep members focused, each runner had to run separately, and was asked to accurately record their own personal times over a varied 4-mile distance to be completed on 4th May.

Organised and promoted by the Cybi Striders club, two of their runners clinched the top two placings with Dafydd Thomas finishing 1st in 24.49, followed by Chris Thomas in 25.30, with Sean McCormack from Abergele Harriers 3rd in 26.22.

Stuart Culverhouse

Stuart Culverhouse was the first NWRRC runner recorded in 10th place overall, but he won his 40-49 ae group in 26.43.

Carla Green was 10th overall and 1st female runner, and she too won her 40-49 age group in 28.07.

Don Hale

Ben Hudson was 13th in 29.04, Steve Roberts 17th in 29.56, and veteran Don Hale was 26th in 32.46, and he finished 2nd in his 60-69 age group.

Karl Morris was 30th in 33.20, with his wife Rachel 54th back in 41.03.

Mandy Owen was 58th in 43.14, with her husband Charlie 59th in 43.20.

Mia Morris

*Teenager Mia Morris was officially too young to be counted in this event but ran very well over this same distance to finish in 34.38.
