Deadline to decide on Rhyl FC’s future is extended another three days

The deadline to save Rhyl Football Club has been extended to April 20.

The original cut-off point for a decision on the future of the four-time Welsh Cup winners was April 17, but a further three days have been allowed to assess potential investment.

Rhyl needs a commitment of £175,000 to ensure it meets all running costs until the end of next season.

The club’s income streams have been crippled by the coronavirus which has caused the suspension of all UK football indefinitely.

A Rhyl FC statement this evening said: “The Board of Directors of Rhyl FC have held a further meeting together with officer representatives of the Rhyl Fans Association to update them on the current position of the football club.

“The meeting reviewed the financial position of the club, taking account of fundraising activities by RFA and the club, against the increasing uncertainty of when traditional income streams for football are likely to return.

“The risk remains that the fixed costs associated with the rental of the Belle Vue stadium together with other fixed costs will continue to accumulate with no form of income to offset these costs.

“The meeting also reviewed the status of investment / sponsorship enquiries to the club and it was confirmed that clarification was awaited from a party who has expressed an interest.

“The club also confirm that the FA of Wales are fully informed of the difficult position of the football club and the likely timescales for decision making.”

Rhyl’s chairman Paul Higginson again encouraged any other interested party to come forward to assist the club with sponsorship or investment to meet the running costs for the 2020/21 season.

He stated: “We discussed with the Rhyl Fans Association extending the deadline to Monday 20th April at 5pm at which point a final decision will be made on the future of the club.“
