Meet the Player: Hen Taylor (Llysfaen FC)

Henry Taylor with sons Jak and Henry junior

Which clubs have you played for in your career?

Abergele and Llysfaen

How do you feel this season has gone so far – both personally and for Llysfaen?

We’ve had a great season so far for Llysfaen. It says a lot about our mentality though that we believe we should have done more. We set ourselves such high standards early on in the season.

What has been the secret of Llysfaen’s brilliant form this season?

Llysfaen FC 2019-20

No secret whatsoever. Hard graft and high demands from manager and throughout the squad.

Which team you have played so far has impressed you the most and why?

Action from Llysfaen v Bangor 1876 in the Junior Cup. Picture: Dafydd Hughes

Bangor 1876 without a doubt. A top side that’ll fly through the divisions. Also Llandudno Amateurs Reserves have proved to be a tough side to play against.

What honours have you won in the game?

Won bits and pieces at junior level personally but not had luck on my side at senior level. Two serious knee operations have held me back. I’ve played in a few finals but not been able to get my hands on a trophy. Hoping to put an end to that this year 😁😉

Best game ever played in?

Ask me at the end of the season…..

Hardest opponent faced in your career?

Too many to name.

Most talented player you have played alongside?

Sean Sheridan (left) has netted 31 goals for Llysfaen this season

Got to name a few here. Emlyn Jones back in the day was unreal, a talented keeper and player by far one of the best around. And not just in football! Hockey, tennis a real all rounder.
Gene Foulkes, easily one of the most skilful players I’ve played with. Play with both feet and turn players inside out.
Sean Sheridan, stupid amounts of pace and power and a rocket strike on him.
Finally Jack Roper, coached him at junior level and played a handful of games with him at senior. In terms of natural ability he’s up there with the best. So much control and makes the game look easy and effortless.

Most goals in a game/in a season?

3 in a game I think is my best – 20 in a season.

Describe your best ever goal

Bicycle kick edge of the box straight into the top corner. Trust me I’ve never hit one so sweet and never will again! (hit and hoper)

What are your feelings on the changes to North Wales football coming in next season?

What future football ambitions do you have?

Henry on a training run

Making it to the end of the season is my only ambition right now. Play through pain every Saturday because of the injuries I’ve had but so grateful to be playing after being told I’d have to give up football.

Best country visited?

Egypt

Finest after-match venue?

Nefyn 🙌🏼

Favourite TV programme?

I’m Alan Partridge

Who’s the funniest character in the dressing room at Llysfaen?

Jake Reynolds when he’s angry

How do you feel Ryan Giggs is performing so far as Wales manager?

Early days yet. Credit him for bringing these talented youngsters into the side. Maybe a mix of wanting to and having to. Seems he’ll have longer now to put his stamp on the side before we start the euros so fingers crossed for him.

Are you involved in any other sports apart from football?

Not anymore, unless we’re counting pub sports! Darts and pool 😄

Who is your favourite boxer and why?

Tyson Fury.
Not a massive fan of boxing but love this guy. His personality and playfulness. Refreshing watching someone in the sport that can have a giggle.
