Can any North Wales senior football team finish their league campaign unbeaten?

With shock first league defeats of the season for Holywell Town and Rhuddlan Town at the weekend, there are now just four unbeaten teams left in North Wales football.

They are: Gwynedd League runaway leaders Bangor 1876, joint Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One trailblazers NFA and Llysfaen, plus Caerwys Vets of the North East Wales League Veterans Premier Division.

As the Vets provide two very competitive divisions within a North Wales league, we consider Caerwys more than suitable for this article.

Bangor City Reserves have also not lost in the Welsh Alliance Reserves Division this term, but have not played for over a month.

Questions have been put to the league and FAW whether they are still an active side, but no answer has been provided. Until they play again we will consider them inactive.

Bangor 1876 – Gwynedd League
Played 16 Won 16 Goals for 115 Goals against 9

Ten points clear at the peak, newly-formed 1876 need to go undefeated for another 12 matches to make it an ‘invincible’ season.

With two games against Menai Bridge, a tough journey to Nefyn and a meeting with Trearddur Bay Bulls still to come, the fan-owned club still have a succession of hurdles to clear.

Next up is a short but potentially tricky trip to Menai Bridge this Saturday.

Both sides are into the NWCFA Junior Cup semi-finals but have avoided each other.

Llysfaen – Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One
Played 11 Won 9 Drawn 2 Goals For 64 Goals Against 14

Still undefeated in the league with only Llandudno Amateurs Reserves (two draws) denying them a 100% record.

Although Emlyn Robert Jones’ side’s season-long run of 18 unbeaten in all competitions ended with a Junior Cup loss to Bangor 1876 last Saturday, the Banana Field outfit are still on course for a treble and look capable of beating anyone in and around their level.

Llysfaen’s two clashes with fellow unbeaten side NFA will hold the key to everything.

NFA – Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One
Played 12 Won 10 Drawn 2 Goals for 60 Goals against 21

Top of Division One with six games left, their meetings with Llysfaen will be absolutely crucial to the destination of the league title.

NFA (now renamed North Football Advance) are three points clear at the summit, having made it 12 undefeated with an 8-0 demolition of Machno United last weekend.

It’s been a wonderful debut season for the Rhyl-based club who, like Llysfaen, have only been beaten in the NWCFA Junior Cup.

Caerwys Vets – North East Wales League Veterans Premier Division
Played 10 Won 9 Drawn 1 Goals for 48 Goals against 16

Eleven points clear and 10 unbeaten in the Vets Premier, Caerwys have just four games to go to complete an ‘invincible’ season.

It is well within the capability of this team, who have home games against FC Nomads Vets, Rhyl Vets and Connah’s Quay Nomads Vets still to come, plus an away trip to Shotton Vets.
