Welsh National (Wrexham Area) League: Cefn Albion back on top after pipping Mold

Albion twin brothers Alex and Nathan Williams with sponsor Paul ‘Pud’ Jones

Cefn Albion returned to the Welsh National League Premier Division peak with a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Mold Alexandra.

This encounter at The Rock was a real thriller, especially the first half which finished two-apiece.

A very capable Mold outfit took the lead on 10 minutes when superb counter-attacking play saw Matty Lewis pick out Conner Kendrick in the middle and the prolific striker finished very well against his former side.

Nathan Williams made it 1-1

Albion equalised in the 28th minute when a quick corner move caught the visitors napping and Nathan Williams was left to tap-in from a yard out.

And it went 2-1 to Cefn on 35 minutes when a cracking long range strike from Callum Mannion gave the Alex keeper no chance.

Mold made it all square again when brilliant work rate from Rhys Nash and Lee Jones helped win the ball, and Jack Lewis found Dan Lloyd, who smashed home.

Ryan Kershaw landed the winner

Ryan Kershaw delivered the winner midway through the second half, when his free kick evaded everyone and found the net.

Albion are now three points ahead of second-place Holywell Town, who have four games in hand.

All other Premier Division matches were off due to waterlogged pitches.

Reserves Division

Currently enjoying the best season in their history, FC Queen’s Park Reserves are up to third after caning Brickfield Rangers Reserves 6-1 in a local derby.

Rob “Gevro” Wright’s side started at a fantastic pace and Zack Davies put the hosts ahead before a calamitous own goal made it 2-0.

Ben White added a third before the break.

The second half saw the Park start a bit sluggish and Brickfield took advantage to pull a goal back.

With the balance of the game changing, Wright looked to his bench and decide to throw on the veteran and first team manager Dave Evans to steady proceedings.

A quick ball into feet gave Evans little time to turn, but as four defenders closed in around him he unleashed a cheeky no-look dink to release White, who made it 4-1.

Two more thunderbolts were to follow from Zack Davies to wrap up his hat-trick and a comfortable 6-1 success.

Second-place Buckley triumphed 3-1 on Friday night at Cefn Druids, Matt Mullarkey, Jordan Hensel and Adam Eden with the away goals.
