NWCFA Junior Cup: Llangoed knock out holders Bro Goronwy

Great action from Llangoed versus Bro Goronwy (red and black)

Llangoed 4 (Wayne Thomas, Tom Zalot, Arwyn Morris, Sam Gregson)
Bro Goronwy 1 (Jac Thomas)
NWCFA Junior Cup round three – February 15, 2020

Holders Bro Goronwy exited the cup at the hands of a determined Llangoed outfit at Tyddyn Paun.

One of only three senior matches to survive Storm Dennis on Saturday – two of them in the Junior Cup – the winners will visit Abergele or Caergybi in the quarter-finals next month.

The deadlock was broken in the 26th minute when top-scorer Wayne Thomas’ swirling free-kick found the net to make it 20 goals for the campaign.

Two minutes later Tom Zalot ran onto a through ball, held off his marker, and slotted neatly into the corner beyond the keeper.

Zalot also struck the post, but Bro pulled one back before the interval when the home keeper raced out to meet a through ball, and Jac Thomas nipped in before him and lobbed into the net for his 21st goal of the season.

Six minutes into the second half, Arwyn Morris was presented with a poor goal-kick and sent the ball back with interest into the top corner for 3-1.

Man of the match Sam Gregson added a fourth in the 57th minute with a back header from a corner.

Credit to camerman Daniel Owen for a great job in capturing the goals in the most horrendous of weather, plus Llangoed’s Richard Gregson and the Bro Goronwy photographer for getting some super snaps.
