Women’s football: Can Bethel complete a quick double over Denbigh? Are Amlwch and Llanfair set for big wins?

What does the weather have in store for us this weekend?
A few women’s games went ahead last Sunday, but still not the elusive full set we hoped for.

North Wales Women’s Football League previews (Sunday 1 pm)

Division One

Denbigh Town v Bethel
Having been caned 9-1 away to Bethel last weekend, Denbigh will be keen to make a better fist of it in the return.
They are certainly capable of doing so, although with the stunning striking talent Bethel have at their disposal, they would have to be considered favourites again.

Llanfair United v Northop Hall
Division One leaders Llanfair hope to finally get a chance to pick up where they left off in 2019 against struggling Northop Hall.
Top of the table with five wins out of five, last season’s joint champions United have not played a league game since November.
They will be expected to take three points against a Hall side reeling from the blow of losing key midfielder Rebecca Hughes for the rest of the season through injury. She is due to have an operation in the summer and plans to return in 2020-21.

Rhyl v Corwen
These two will finally hope to get it on after several planned clashes this season have ended up postponed.
Rhyl must be champing at the bit to play their first match in nine weeks, having started the season so well.
With a few players returning from injury in recent weeks, Corwen’s performances have taken an upturn, their last game delivering a 4-0 win against Northop Hall.

Division Two

Caernarfon Town v Amlwch Town
Leaders Amlwch Town will travel to The Oval with a squad containing several players expected to face their old club.
The Anglesey side remain unbeaten and top of the table with all sorts of goals potential in the ranks.
Ffion Owen and Lexi Crawley are joint league top-scorers alongside Denbigh’s Rosie Hughes with 17 goals apiece in all competitions.

Llanberis v Holywell
With a record of three wins and three losses, Llanberis will start favourites to see off a Holywell side still in the development stage having been beaten in all of their seven encounters so far.
They met last October at Holywell and the Darans won 5-1.

Pwllheli v Connah’s Quay Nomads
This will be the third meeting between this pair in the current season.
Nomads won 9-1 in a Division Two battle back on October 13 and seven days later it was much closer with the Quay taking the honours 3-1 in a Welsh Cup game, again on Deeside.
Sara Hilton’s Nomads are right up there with the best in the division, while Pwllheli are a team of real battlers who can give anyone a tough challenge on their day.
Much may depend on who Pwllheli have available.
