Delwyn completes a terrific treble!

The three major awards Delwyn Derrick has won this year

In what is proving to be an amazing year for Bellevue FC’s Delwyn Derrick, he has added another impressive piece of glassware to his collection.

Offa Community Council, which is where the North East Wales League club based in Wrexham call home, have named Delwyn their Citizen of the Year in recognition of his outstanding voluntary work with the club and within the local community.

The year began with Delwyn being named Wrexham County Borough Council’s Volunteer of the Year at January’s Sports Awards and has ended with the accolades BBC Wales Unsung Hero and now Citizen of the Year.

All of this and still in with a chance of scooping the national award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony in Aberdeen on December 15th.

Speaking of the latest award, Delwyn said: “Being an Offa boy, born and bred, being named citizen of the year by the community council is incredible.

“For me it’s right up there with the best of them and I’m proud that the community value us down at the park. None of this is going to my head though, no matter what comes my way, my work in Offa, in Wrexham and in Wales is never done and I will keep on doing it for as long as circumstances allow me to.

Delwyn receives his BBC Wales Unsung Hero award from the great Mickey Thomas

“With this one, I really want to thank everyone in Offa for the fantastic support they’ve shown us over the last three years. They’ve made all of our lads feel so welcome and we’re here to stay.

“As with everything, this award isn’t just for me, without my boys I’m just a regular guy, so this award is going into the Bellevue cabinet as a massive thank you to my brothers and to the other incredible volunteers who have built and maintained this fantastic club alongside me for three incredible years.”
