An award-winning football club whose men’s team have experienced many adventures since forming three years ago is branching out to form a women’s side.

Bellevue FC is North Wales’ first and award-winning, league registered, multi-ethnic and inclusion specific football club.

One of the men’s recent training sessions was watched by a local girl’s father named Steffan who enquired about starting a women’s team.

Bellevue manager Delwyn “Sheep” Derrick said: “When we said we’d be interested in starting one up, his daughter, Sasha, made up a load of flyers and spread the word far and wide across Wrexham.”

As a result a group of girls have been attending practice sessions and things are shaping nicely.

Delwyn added: “All the credit goes to them for setting this up, we have simply supplied the home for them, a badge to play for and a team of qualified coaches to work with.

“With the organisation going on outside of the club, we turned up not knowing what to expect, how many people might turn up.

“We were completely blind going into it. We were pleasantly surprised though. We had 12 eager ladies from a wide age range with varying abilities turn up and give it their all!

“Their attitude and passion for the game made it a really easy and enjoyable session with a great group of incredible women.”

The club plans to bypass the forthcoming 2020-21 season to prepare properly to enter a league in 2021-22.

“With Covid still looming and so much up in the air, we are looking to use our time now to keep advertising this new venture, keep working hard with the ladies and getting them ready to enter the women’s league in 2021,” said Delwyn.

“This session felt like starting Bellevue FC all over again. It was new, exciting and a massive step into the unknown.

But as with everything Bellevue, the players make every step a pleasure to take and the ladies are no different.”
