FC Queen’s Park edged a 3-2 victory at Penycae in the Welsh National League Premier Division Cup first round.

First blood went to the hosts as the Park lost possession in the centre of the field and the ball fell to Corey Smart, who cut inside and forced Joey Jones into a fine save. He could only force the ball into the path of the oncoming striker Josh Milly, who slotted into the open net.

From here, the Park took full control of the first half and had wave after wave of attack. Via one of a number of corners, James Gregory whipped a delightful ball into the box that floated straight over the keeper and into the net.

The very next phase of play saw the visitors force another corner and this time a fine delivery by Edgar Lima picked out Jason Edwards to head home.

Lima soon made it 3-1 with a lovely finish following a neat one-two with Barry Torrence.

As the half came to an end a sloppy piece of defending allowed Penycae back into the game. A number of mistakes resulted in former Park striker Smart having time and space on the edge of the box to strike an effort which with a wicked deflection flew into the top corner.

It was 3-2 to the Park at half time and no further goals followed in the second period, although Penycae looked to have equalised only for Edwards to produce a stunning goal-line clearance.

Cefn Albion went joint top of the Premier Division after a 3-1 triumph at Chirk AAA.

Dion Gibbins, Danny Holland and Alex Williams netted for last season’s FAW Trophy winners, who only trail leaders Brymbo on goal difference.

Danny Wynne and Kyle Harte bagged the goals which earned Rhydymwyn a 2-1 victory against Plas Madoc, Liam Sklenar replying.

Jac Evans scored both for Llanuwchllyn in a 2-1 verdict at Castell Alun Colts.

New signing Dewi Edwards pocketed the all-important goal as Llangollen pipped Hawarden Rangers 1-0 to lead Division One outright.

Johnstown YFC celebrated their first win of the campaign, beating Rhosllanerchrugog 2-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Hanmer and Dewi Reeves.
