Football: Games to Please Across The Leagues (Oct 25-26)

Cymru Premier (7.45 pm)
The New Saints v Bala Town

Now they have shattered the longest-standing jinx in Welsh football, can Bala make lightning strike twice when they visit the champions tonight?

Back in August, the Lakesiders beat Saints 3-1, recording their first-ever league victory over the full-timers at the 33rd attempt (after 21 losses and 11 draws).

There is only one place and two points between the pair in the Cymru Premier, TNS lying third and Bala fourth.

Anglesey League (7 pm)
Cemaes Bay v Llanfairpwll

Cemaes will be targeting a double over Llanfairpwll having won 3-0 at Maes Eilian last month courtesy of an Andy Williams hat-trick.

A draw would put the Bay top (temporarily at least) but Llanfair have performed well on their travels this term, so this game may end up far from a pushover for the all-reds.

Saturday, October 26

Cymru North (2.30 pm)
Rhyl v Colwyn Bay

People of a certain age will remember when these two long-established clubs used to meet in the English pyramid.

Saturday brings their first-ever clash at first team level in the modern-day Welsh system, the Bay having “come home” this season.

It has all the makings of a corker, with Rhyl third and Bay fourth in the tier-two Cymru North.

The Lilywhites have won three games on the bounce and lost just one of their last seven in all competitions, while the Seagulls are on a run of four victories in succession with only a single defeat suffered in eight outings.

Welsh National League (Wrexham Area – 2.30 pm)
Premier Division: Cefn Albion v Rhydymwyn

Albion showed what they are truly capable of last Saturday with a 4-1 victory at high-flying Rhostyllen.

If they can produce that sort of performance again, they should have too much for Rhydymwyn, who exited the Welsh Cup 2-0 at Nantlle Vale.

Rhyd are fifth bottom in the Premier, but have played just four league matches – two wins, two losses. They announced the signing of the experienced Danny Wynne yesterday.

FAW Trophy round three (2 pm)
Denbigh Town v FC Queen’s Park

Potentially the tie of the round between a Denbigh side presently third in Welsh Alliance Division One and a Park outfit occupying an identical position in the WNL Premier.

Town hope to have the experienced Moses Barnett available following his transfer from Conwy Borough.

The Park produced a display of magnificent character last weekend to win 3-2 at Prestatyn Sports in the Welsh Cup.

Gwynedd League (2 pm)
Trearddur Bay Bulls v Caergybi

A crunch derby on the cards at Lon Isallt between leaders Bulls and their nearby derby rivals.

Trearddur Bay possess a 100% home record, while Caergybi have won just one out of five on their travels.

These two know each other well from past Anglesey League campaigns when Bay were known as Bryngwran Bulls. Several players will be up against their old club, which will add plenty of spice to the occasion.
