On his 100th Welsh Premier appearance Jamie Breese netted Caernarfon’s only goal against his former club to ensure the hosts edged up to joint third in the Cymru Premier.

Town made it six league matches undefeated with one of the most emphatic 1-0 victories one could wish to see.

A cracking crowd of 803 at The Oval – a tremendous turnout considering the match was being shown live on Facebook – witnessed a fine display from the Canaries which helped wipe out memories of Tuesday’s shock 4-1 home loss to Prestatyn in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Town were on fire from the start, Darren Thomas lashing into the net after just two minutes only to be ruled marginally offside.

Sion Bradley’s drilled effort across the face of goal was narrowly missed by a stretching Breese before Robins keeper Dave Jones blocked well from Thomas, who curled the rebound over.

The impressive Danny Brookwell ran at the Newtown defence in the 33rd minute but saw his right-foot strike hit the angle of post and bar.

Half-time arrived somehow scoreless.

Town began the second half again in positive mode and the deadlock was finally broken in the 56th minute.

Keeper Jones sliced an attempted clearance straight to Breese, who steadied himself and sent a lovely chip into the net over the stranded custodian.

This was Caernarfon Town’s 700th goal in the top flight of Welsh football.

Newtown tried to rally but found themselves little joy against the home defence with Jamie Crowther, named man of the match by Sgorio, outstanding.

Bradley’s run and fierce shot was comfortably dealt with by Jones before Thomas’ neat chip would have been a goal all the way but for Craig Williams heading off the line.

Substitute Sam Jones raced into the box in added time, but his firm strike from an acute angle was kept out by Dave Jones at his near post.

Bala Town 2 (Venables 13, 83)
Aberystwyth Town 0

Cymru Premier top-scorer Chris Venables moved up to eight for the season with a deadly double in fifth-place Bala’s deserved victory over Aber at Maes Tegid.

Venables, three-time past Golden Boot winner while an Aberystwyth player, sank his old club with goals after 13 and 83 minutes.
