JD Cymru North: Wins for Flint, Prestatyn, Rhyl, Buckley, Ruthin and Gresford

Despite witnessing his team suffer a losing start on their JD Cymru North debut, Colwyn Bay manager Craig Hogg was far from despondent after the 1-0 home defeat to Flint Town United on Friday.

He said: “I’m not disappointed at all with what I witnessed tonight from my players.

“A team that has only been together for eight weeks has just taken apart one of the title favourites for 90 per cent of the game and I’m honestly struggling to compute how we haven’t won the game let alone salvage a point.

“Apart from their very early goal we’ve destroyed them with the ball and we count ourselves very unlucky to come away empty-handed.

“Flint will be strong candidates for the title this year and in fairness to them they’ve reacted in the right way after losing their first game and have fought hard to hold onto their lead.

“Our performance merited so much more, but then you don’t always get what you deserve in football.”

Mark Cadwallader scored the only goal as Flint on 1-0 at the Four Crosses Construction Arena, making it a grim return to Welsh league action for the Seasiders after a 35-year absence.

Two quickfire goals in the first half proved enough for Rhyl to edge a 2-1 win over promoted Llangefni Town.

Sam Molyneux and James Murphy handed the Lilywhites a two-goal interval lead before the floodlights failed during the break and put the rest of the game in doubt.

Thankfully the problem was solved and Cefni went on to perform well in the second half, Alun Roberts halving the deficit early on, but that was the end of the scoring.

Prestatyn Town romped to a 6-1 success at outgunned newcomers Corwen.

Rob Hughes converted a hat-trick of penalties for the Seasiders, with Jordan Davies, Jack Kenny and Danny Davies also on the mark. Joe Williams had pulled Corwen level at one stage.

Saturday’s action saw Conwy Borough and a very much new-look Bangor City, playing their first league game of the season, battle out a 0-0 draw.

Llyr Morris and Gwydion Ifan ensured Chris Hardy’s first game in charge of Ruthin Town was a winning one as they triumphed 2-1 at Penrhyncoch.

Matt Williams scored both as Llanrhaeadr celebrated a 2-0 result at Guilsfield.

Llandudno were left stunned as Gresford Athletic left Maesdu Park 4-1 victors, Joe Culshaw, Jake Eyre and Jack Chaloner putting the Colliers three-up by half time.

Although Bryan Roberts replied for Tudno on 72 minutes, Athletic, who had Chaloner sent off for a second yellow in the closing stages, clinched the points with a Jordan MacCarter goal.

Buckley Town edged a 3-2 decision over Porthmadog at Globe Way.

Aron Williams, Josh Jones and an own goal made up the Bucks total, Aled Bellis also missing a penalty, while Gethin Thomas and Jay Gibbs (pen) took Port to within a minute of a point only for the hosts to grab a late winner.
