Flint Mountain add an illustrious footballing name to their title

Flint Mountain celebrate winning one of four trophies this season

Exciting developments for this season’s quadruple trophy winners Flint Mountain FC.

From next season, the up and comers will be renamed Halkyn and Flint Mountain Football Club as part of ambitious plans to progress to as high a level as possible.

This season proved amazingly successful for Mountain. The club landed their first ever league title after finishing top of the North East Wales League unbeaten. This secured them promotion to the Welsh National League Division One for the first time.

Mountain also lifted the President’s Cup, Horace Wynne Cup and Mike Beech Memorial Trophy, and were only denied a five-timer after losing in the Goals Premier Cup final to Acton – their sole domestic defeat in 2018-19.

Mountain were the only Saturday club in North Wales football to win four trophies this season.

In order to secure promotion to the Welsh National League, the club have secured the facilities at Pant Newydd in Halkyn, formerly home to now folded senior side, Halkyn United, which will become the club’s new permanent base.

Not only do these facilities provide the necessary criteria for tier four, they also tick most of the boxes to achieve any future promotions.

As part of this move to Halkyn, the club will be renamed Halkyn and Flint Mountain FC.

The club have also taken on three new committee members, Don Barker, Ray Roberts and Steve Johnson, who were previously part of the former Halkyn United committee. They will join the existing Flint Mountain club committee.

Incorporating the good name of Halkyn will do no harm at all to Mountain’s image.

During their proud history, Halkyn won the Welsh Alliance and Clwyd League Premier Division titles, spending six seasons in the tier-two Cymru Alliance, as well as landing other prestigious trophies such as the Barritt and Cookson Cups.
